Welcome back after the festive season, I hope you had a wonderful time and avoided any of the nasty hugs going around.
After moving cubs on to scouts at our last meeting our pack starts with a few less cubs than last year. But we have a number of Cubs with great commitment at
all age ranges and already had people wishing to join.
We continue to be a highly competitive cub pack and have won every District Trophy in 2017. There are a number of reasons why we do so well but commitment
and doing our best as a cub pack seem to be the answer.
Well done to those brave souls who attended the New Year’s walk, this looked to be difficult but turned out an enjoyable walk, Cubs attending earn a hike merit,
badges are awarded at 1,5,10 new twenty merit gaps.
Pantomime was a good night enjoyed by half pack, it is nice to see pantomime cows and experience live theatre, traditional pantomime, and the excitement of
an evening out.
We meet back Tuesday 11th January, normal time at the hall.
Three events loom on the horizon that need your attention.
EVENT 1 July 22nd -27th
Dorset camp, it appears most Cubs intend to attend this camp which looks to be a grand adventure. Plans and budgets need careful management and deposits are
needed in this month. Be aware we are booking activities now and if you are not on the list you won't have activities booked for you. Adults wishing to attend
supporting the event need to apply with a deposit. We will choose the actual adult support team when we know numbers going (another reason we need cub
deposits). All adults going are going by invitation and selected on proven aptitude.
EVENT 2 Mince Pie Rally
Mince pie Rally is a great Cub craft day on Saturday 20th January
All district packs complete in a craft competition and we have won this event for the past three years, but our competitors have grown over the past year and
we can't expect to win as easily this year. All cubs attending will have a chance to earn activity badges. older Beavers are welcome at this event.
The event runs from 10-4 and cost £14 which includes a light lunch. Cubs come as they are, no coats, no packed lunches just uniform and a few coppers to spend on
sweets. Numbers are needed in advance so sign up on the front desk.
EVENT 3
Winter camp
Winter camp at Gilwell park 9-11th February is our first camp of the year. Cubs are indoors in a nice building and will have the opportunity to gain badges and
enjoy a special 32nd Cub pack camp. Notes have already been emailed and handed out, parent help will be needed on this local camp. Those Beavers completing
their bronze challenge need to complete as nights away for that award.
Our cubs should be signing on for all three of these events now, if there is a money issue let me know in confidence and we can help. We shouldn’t be putting
more events on the table until easter.

“Season’s greetings to all”
2017 comes rushing to a close as 2018 starts with the promise of further fun and adventure.
Many thanks for all the help and support our pack has enjoyed over the past year, the pack experienced many excellent activities and successes. We end the year with around the same number of Cubs we started with, a stronger leadership team and about the same amount of money in our coffers. Akela the 5th has, like his predecessors, rotated the pack in a three-year time warp for as long as he can remember. We have always had a hall full of happy Cubs busy doing fun things. Although faces change 32nd Cubs are fast approaching their thirtieth rotation, ninety years of laughter and adventure. Let's remember we are another small important link in a long happiness chain.
Remember to check out our Pack Christmas tree at the annual Chingford Christmas tree festival. It is on display in the Methodist church next to Buxton Bears in the high road, until Christmas. Most Cubs have added a self-made decoration to this display, many thanks to Bagheera for organizing our tree this year.

A lot of good work and great commitment shown, I enjoyed the Drumming most which was really inspirational, and our cubs were really well behaved throughout.
Well done the cubs who represented Chingford at County Quiz, they came second missing first place by half a point.
Farewell Christian. I am sure our new cubs will eclipse his many achievements
Due to refurbishment we lose our hall from 11th of December until next year, we have contingency plans and will now have our Cub Christmas party on Tuesday 12th at Gilwell park
On Tuesday 19th we will go to the Odeon Lee Valley to watch the new Star Wars film.
Plans for our special week-long camp in Dorset during July 2018 are now available. We are looking for numbers now, older cubs should note they may be in the Scout section by this time, this makes no difference to the application process. The camp will be a great adventure and offers fantastic value for money being heavily subsidised by group and donations.

Cubs will be invested, moved on to Scouts, meet a bloke dressed in red who will give those who have been good a nice present. Cubs will have a chance to win a spectacular prize for having the best self-made hat, or winning one of the many games played.
Parents are asked to select a food from the list on our front desk to support the event. We will need help to clear the hall after the event.
New year’s 32nd Group family hike 2nd January 2018
All Members of the Group and families are invited to the new year’s forest walk.
This is traditionally the first event in our years activities and is a nice stroll in the forest. Refreshments are provided and for cubs it classes as a hike towards their staged badges.
Pantomime Thursday 4th January James Hawkey hall Woodford
Traditional pantomime is a great experience for youngsters and we can subsidise this event to an affordable £10 for our uniformed members.
This is an evening show and cubs should attend in uniform from 7pm. Family members are welcome however we take no responsibility for them and they need to pay the full £13.50p.
If you have never been this is a great night and if you have been you know how enjoyable pantomime is.Tickets are available from out front desk, once they are gone they are gone.
32nd CUB CAMPS in 2018
A handout concerning our long-planned Dorset Cub and Scout camp is attached. The pack intends to camp on weekends in February at Gilwell, June at Danemead, a Halloween camp at Belchamps, and a special week-long Dorset camp at the end of July. Camps are the very best activity we do and the 32nd has a rich history of running excellent camps. Please note the Dorset camp needs committing to by the
end of January, details are attached ask if you need more information.
We are planning a six-day (five night) camp for Cubs and Scouts in Dorset in July 2018, the camp will include:
A visit by ferry to Brownsea island, situated in Poole Harbour it is a site of natural beauty and historical interest and the site of the very first Scout campsite.
A visit to Monkey world a national sanctuary for apes and monkeys.
The national Tank Museum, home to a vast collection of armoured vehicles.
A trip the no.1 UK visitor attraction, Harry Potter world warner Brothers studio
Trips to Dorset Beaches, walks in the countryside, rafting, climbing, canoeing and other instructor led activities.
The 32nd Cub Pack maintains two black lists:
Cubs who don’t camp x1 at present Two reasons, we turn cubs away all year around because of no space, consequently retaining cubs who do not attend camps is unfair on those not lucky enough to be
in the group. Secondly our scout section has limited space and places need to be available to those who will make the most of them.
Families who don’t helps x2 at present
Our pack is strong because we have an inclusion and helping culture. The very best cub packs run on parent help, all parents are advised of the help requirement when their join. I have seen three local packs close due to lack of help and don’t intend to allow this to happen to us. Help where you can and if asked.
Keep up the good support and help where you can.
Kind regards
Akela
