January Update 2016
Statistics 33 cubs 7 visiting beaver, 5 leaders and 6 core helpers
140 HIKES 258 NIGHTS AWAY Issue No 334
Hike and pantomime went well, with the Robin Hood pantomime having really good support. Hike was wet and cold but fantastic work by Peter and Sam ensured the day was a success.
A District Leaders meeting has been held and a few more dates are on the calendar.
It looks very much like we have a full house of cubs returning after Christmas with no losses, we have already had one new cub invested and have more to follow.
Mince Pie rally and the Cub centenary Celebration are on Saturday 23rd of January. The celebration party is one of three National centenary events that all cubs should try to attend. I will select a team of twelve cubs from the rally to represent us at the County Cubopoly day the following weekend.
Parent Help is first class, well done. There are times when we need a lot of support and parents have always met this challenge.
Almost all parents are now on direct debit, many thanks for your support with this transfer.
Mince Pie Rally Saturday 23rd January 9:30am £10
We could use money and payment in advance please. Your child only needs to turn up in uniform, they will get party food and can buy tuck. This is a craft activity badge day and a number of badges are on offer. We need strong cubs in each age group to complete the rally race for us (and hopefully win it). Only those running the rally race will go outside and only for a short time most cubs don’t need coats. As a special treat our cubs will visit Gilwell park White house afterwards and the day will end at 4pm. As stated this will form one of the three Cub Centenary events.
Cubopoly Saturday 30th January 12:30-4pm our Hall
This is an invite only competition event and cubs attending will be chosen at mince pie rally
Cubopoly is a money building activity game played in teams of three.
Legacy
The Cubs have been given an amount of money by Kevin Walker’s family, Kevin was a much loved Leader. Enabling decision making by young people, we have allowed the cubs a free choice on how this money is to be used. After some interesting debates the cubs decided to visit “Jump Giants” and we will arrange a trip next term one pack evening, more to follow.
Cub Camp
Cub Camp is at Gilwell Park 12th-14th February. We are trying some unusual unique activities and Cubs will have a chance to gain some activity badges. Cubs need to attend Cub camps, we have limited spaces in our popular scout troop and they won’t accept cubs who do not camp. If you consider the reasons for this its common sense, rather like allowing non swimmers to join a race swimming team, it not reasonable. Our front desk is taking Cub camp monies payable in advance now. Any issues ask a leader.
New Leader
Although we have a strong team and great support from parents and friends the pack needs a new leader. Akela is looking for an Adult who enjoys working with the Cub age group and has the commitment to be a leader. Akela is seeking specific skill sets to enhance our pack leadership team. If you are, or know somebody who could be a new leader send them to see me. Blacklist
Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers
Please remember to ask for these when shopping at Sainsbury’s and help us collect as many as possible, the free kit we can get helps reduce your costs.
We have three “black lists” in the pack:
Cubs who do not camp (three cubs)
Cubs who do not hike (four cubs)
Parents who don’t help (six families)
I mention this for two reasons, firstly if you are on any of these lists your child is missing out. Secondly our scout group is oversubscribed and not allowing those who don’t full participate in the group to progress to the next section, is an easy way to help resolve our lack of spaces issue. This is not something I control.

Subscription changes
The pack is moving to Direct Debit payment, this matches our Beaver and Scout Section practices. All parents not yet on the system should be aware of the changeover process, if you have any difficulties or issues our Group Scout Leader will be on hand for the next few weeks to resolve any problems. Some Cubs are already paying by Direct Debit and two older Cubs not expected to join Scouts won’t be moved to the new system. Your yearly subscriptions do not change, payments are made over twelve months instead of eleven. All other payments such as camps are made via the cash desk please.

Akela is looking for an Adult who enjoys working with the Cub age group and has the commitment to be a leader. Akela is seeking specific skill sets to enhance our pack leadership team. New Centenary Scarves
Santa gave invested Cubs a centenary Scarf on his visit, Akela brought these as a personal gift for leaders and Cubs and has asked each cub to contribute £2 to their cost.
