"Running the very best pack possible"

October Newsletter 2016

Statistics 40 Cubs, 5 leaders and 7 core helpers

104 HIKES 357 NIGHTS AWAY Issue No 346

Our flag held by Hannah is the first in the line with our cubs unseen in front of her, 650 cubs attended the camp and the 32nd cubs accounted for around 7% of the total.

What a busy and successful month September has been for our Pack, the national cub centenary rolls on, we retained all our cubs over the summer recess, we had a great bag packing event raising a much needed £1,400.00p for our Group coffers, we completed the Disability Awareness activity badge, most of our Cubs enjoyed a truly magnificent centenary camp at Thfiftwood county camp, we invested our first autumn Cub of 2016 and a number of good deposits were made in our cubs’ memory banks.

“Not Cabbages and Kings but Avocados and Cubs”

1. On Tuesday 11th October, it will be our Avocados judging meeting. Fantastic prizes will be won in eight, nine and ten year old age groups. The best will have the biggest prize. Cubs need to return their Avocados, if they have survived, to be judged.

Reports are some have done very well and others have joined the celestial seed garden.

2. Cubs have a chance to test their cycling skills and compete in the County cyclotron on the 29th September. This will take place at the cycle centre in Fairlop waters playing fields (Just pass the boulder park). This is a wonderful bike resource which is something worth seeing if you have not visited it before. Details attached

3. A date for your diaries, all cubs should attend the Cubs 100 Promise party on Friday evening 16th December at Gilwell Park, this Christmas fun fair event should be a fantastic experience uniting with every cub in the country.

We have three “black lists” in the pack:

Cubs who have not camped (two cubs) Cubs who do not hike (six cubs) parents who don’t help (three families).

I mention this for a couple of reasons, firstly if you are on any of these lists your child or another who could have taken their place in our pack and would have camped, is missing out. Secondly our scout group is oversubscribed and not allowing those who don’t fully participate in the group to progress to the next section, is an easy way to help resolve our lack of spaces issue. This is not something I control.

We are seeking an additional leader so if you know anybody have a word
