Kubadoo, Athletes badge and fire safety badge have been an bus

y start to October. Attendance has been really good, with easily the largest local pack we consistently have more than 40 cubs at pack meetings. Discipline, uniform standard and individual commitment is good. Many thanks to firefighter Mick Reed who helped with part one of the Cubs Fire safety badge. We have had a issue with a cub being hurt during football before the start of the meeting. Cubs need to be very careful playing football before the beginning or post ends of meetings, this is a classic time for accidents. My leaders will be looking for our more energetic members and encouraging them to study meditation on the sidelines. So play nicely or sit out. This update covers a lot of key information and the pack is very busy over the next few weeks. Remember four things:

1. If in doubt ask a leader

2. We have coffers and if you are having difficulty paying have a quiet word

3. Parent help is always encouraged, expected and welcome

4. Check the key camp information if you are sending your child

Key messages for the coming month:

· Tuesday 21st October the Pack will be having a hall swap and visiting the Scout hut in Larkshall road. Weather permitting we can be doing some outdoor activities please check the information below.

Tuesday 21st October Larkshall Scout Hut

We will be completing the second part of our fire safety badge on this night. Please note the relocation for the evening and cubs will need outdoor trousers, boots jackets and hats. We are serving hot chocolate and hotdogs, weather permitting we will run an outdoors campfire.

Tuesday 28th October London visit day out

The Pack is running another London day out trip, Uniformed Cubs will explore the metropolis, have a river boat tour, visit a pirate ship and the museums. Details attached families are invited to tag along but Leaders will not be responsible for siblings. These are popular excursions for the Pack which we have run for many years. Cubs should experience the wonderful capital we live on the edge of. A charge of £10 is made for the day.

Friday 31st October -2nd November

Halloween activity camp

Some key points:

Ø Cubs arrive and depart in uniform but will need a Halloween costume to put on close at hand as the party will be that night.

Ø If cubs don’t come having a completed a shooting consent form they won’t undertake this activity.

Ø Potholing is exciting and fun but wet and messy (although quite warm underground) cubs need a black bag for the old soiled clothing they will return in from this activity.

Ø All families sending cubs should look to helping out somewhere, “we have a special event on at home so cant help” is acceptable once but not every time you send your child away.

Tuesday 4th November District Fireworks Gilwell Park London visit day out

The Pack attends Gilwell Park for the District Fireworks event. 6:45-8:40. Cubs need to be wrapped up warmly, as the night is fully outdoors (if cancelled we will revert back to our hall). Uniform, Hats, Waterproof Jackets, gloves and wellies/boots, long trousers. Your Pack and Scout Group will pay for this event, so no need for money. Beaver siblings attending are welcome but need to be accompanied by a parent. We already have two helpers, Stephanie and Gabriella who will help the District team serving and tidying up (many thanks). No other siblings or parents are allowed.

Tuesday 18th November Charlie and the chocolate factory

Saturday 22nd November Parish Bazaar Bottle appeal

Our Scout Group is running its usual Tombola at the Parish Bazaar, we need new products for our grocery/drinks/toy/fancy goods stall. Please note the Parish are very proud of its Scout Group and support us as our sponsoring authority by allowing us an inexpensive; safe, good quality hall to meet in. What a really good start for the school year, all our invested cubs returned in September, we had a well attended District Zoo trip and Church parade, a football tournament, our Lego figures arrived and given out, a horrible history evening and five investments. October see’s Kubadoo, Athletes badge, cub camp and a half term London visit. So while I settle down and cook a stew, for the family, I will run through what is to come. Help where you can a parent roster is being placed on the front desk. Parents should remember we are not a poor Scout group and if the extent of our programme causes you issues have a quiet word with a leader.

Key messages for the coming month:

· Saturday 4th Kubadoo October note attached, this is a great County activity day out for Cubs.

· Tuesday 7th Athletes badge Lea Valley indoor Track. This is a great night for all Cubs, Junior Cubs will gain the introduction badge for turning up and showing a good attitude. A stage badge is available for the more competitive Cub scouts. Parent help is needed on this evening running bases and carrying worn out cubs off the track.

· Tuseday 28th October The Pack will visit London during half term. These popular excursions enable the pack to appreciate what a wonderful place our capital city is. Joining instructions will be distributed before half term advising of the day out. Families are welcome to tag along on these trips.

· Friday 30th October Halloween and activity cub camp at Phasels wood activity centre. Only two places remain for this exciting camp, when they are gone they won’t be any more places.

· An embargo still remains on Cubs helping at Beaver meetings without their parents in attendance. This is for safety reasons.

· A very few number of 32nd beaver an cub Lego minifigures remain unsold, these would normally cost £18 but can be purchased (with selection of hair, skin and heads) for £12. Let me know if you want one.
