June 2016

Dear parents

we have a woodwork night next Tuesday and need cubs to have a Hammer clearly marked with their name.

Also as many adult helpers as possible, with work benches, saws, screwdrivers, skill saws, rulers and pencils.

Cubs are building something and doing their DIY badges.

116 HIKES 227 NIGHTS AWAY Issue No 343

“Running the very best pack possible”

Something in the air:

May was busy and productive for the Pack ending in the London Trip, how impressive turning out in good numbers on a wet day. I am advised St Pauls was incredible with the behaviour and attitudes of cubs being first class, well done.

We fielded two teams in the football 5 a side competition and came first and second, I was very pleased with all our cubs and their sportsmanlike approach, again very well done especially to Kaa (Peter Scott) who organised the event.

Our Last evening at Connaught waters was fun but a tad cold.

June brings a number of great Cub activities for us, Gilwell Funday seems particularly well supported.

We have a walk on the 12th, need parents with tools and work benches to help on the 7th, we will be swimming on the 14th at Gilwell and out at the ridgeway park on the 28th.

All events are uniformed, scarves and green cub tops unless stated otherwise.

Hike Sunday 12th June

Pack hike, family can tag along. Will count towards one hike credit and should be an enjoyable afternoon out. Meet 12 noon Chingford plain. Uniformed event refreshments provided for uniformed members.

Swimming at Gilwell open pool on Tuesday 14th June

Normal pack evening but swimming and outdoor games at Gilwell Park. Uniformed event we will select our District Gala team on this evening. Normal time, bring swimming costume and towel. This is a team selection and fun swim night. Gilwell will only cancel if thunder and lightning (if it’s raining the swimmers will get wet ;o) ) if the weather is heavy rain non-competitive swimmers can meet at the hall.

A night in the Park on Tuesday 28th June

Fun and games in the park, uniformed event. We meet the normal time at the Ridgeway park. Light rain or showers dress for the weather, if the weather is heavy rain we will meet at the hall.

This is the Jewel in the Packs crown. All Cubs should attend Cub camp especially summer camp. It’s the Best of things. This year we are having an American Indian theme and joining instructions are attached.

Your Scout Group is attending and the cost for Cubs is £10. The event runs from 10am-4pm, cubs need a packed lunch, uniform but dress for the weather. Great day out remember this one needs car sharing.

Chingford swimming Gala Thursday 7th July

We will choose our team on 14th June

Please put my name down!

We are having an issue with people putting their names down for events and then, either not turning up or changing their minds at the last moment. For some of these events the Pack is required to pay in advance. Kindly only put your name down for events if you are paying. If you have an issue or problem with this please speak with me or one of our leaders.

Blacklist

We have three “black lists” in the pack:

Cubs who do not camp (six cubs) Cubs who do not hike (six cubs)Parents who don’t help (three families)

I mention this for two reasons, firstly if you are on any of these lists your child is missing out. Secondly our scout group is oversubscribed and not allowing those who don’t full participate in the group to progress to the next section, is an easy way to help resolve our lack of spaces issue. This is not something I control.
