Dear Parents,

April was a good month for the Pack, we had a great night Easter egg hunting, St Georges day craft and parade, Hendon RAF museum trip and a visit up Pole hill. The Pack hosted the County Lego event and our team came a well placed third. Well done to everybody who helped out somewhere. Our Hendon day was a great enjoyable success and well supported as was the St Georges day parade.

A couple of important points:

We are a successful cub pack, when I started with our pack, Chingford District had twelve cub Packs with over two hundred and fifty cubs. Today the District has seven cub packs five of whom are struggling and a few more will close before the end of this decade. Packs and Scout Groups fail only because they lack Leaders and helpers. This is why I insist ALL PARENTS ARE OBLIGED TO HELP ON ONE PACK EVENING EACH TERM. I do not see this as a big request and I refuse people joining and ask parents to leave if they don’t support this objective. This is not a question of being hard and unreasonable, this is a question of our survival in the modern age. Organisations like scouting are volunteer led and depend on lots of your support.

The shape of things to come:

Sainsbury’s Active kid’s vouchers

Please remember to ask for these when shopping at Sainsbury’s and help us collect as many as possible, the free kit we can get helps reduce your costs. Active Kid’s vouchers are ending soon please collect as many as possible.

Sainsbury’s Bag Packing

Our planned bag packing activity has been rescheduled, apparently Sainsbury’s have changed their booking system and we have had to renegotiate our event. This is a bit of a worry for the Group as it is our main source of fundraising. This effects all members of the group and could mean more expensive scouting for all of us if not resolved.

Portsmouth 23rd May

Coach trip to Royal docks at Portsmouth, this is a great day out. Cubs will visit four great ships and enjoy a boat tour of the harbour. The outing cost £25 and cubs will need a packed lunch and a few pounds spending money. A few spaces still exist please consider going as it is a really good day out including a number of historic ship visits and a boat around the harbour. The group heavily subsidise this trip and it is a real bargain.

Our Pack depends on parental help, we need two parent helpers at each meeting, sometimes a few more and lots of help when the pack is out and about. We are the largest and most active local pack with the biggest leadership team, but my leaders are needed to run games and activities not support the pack by tidying up, serving food and drinks and such tasks. We really do need your help for this. Please be aware we have sickness in the leadership team at present which will need additional helpers stepping up and doing their bit. Let’s keep the good work up. We also badly need some additional long term free storage space and could use a second cub pack which would mean a new pack Leader. Let me know if you can help.
