February Update 2016

Statistics 38 cubs 2 visiting beaver and a child waiting investment, 5 leaders and 6 core helpers

140 HIKES 337 NIGHTS AWAY Issue No 336

The year rolls on and February has proved awesome to date with a football competition, District Chess, Cub camp and our Chislehurst caves visit. All this excitement and we still have one more meeting to go until March.

Harry Q, Ben and Harry W, won through at the Chingford District Chess competition and form part of our District team competing at County later this month. We wish them the best of luck and know they will enjoy the day. Well done Jim, Joe, Patrick and Karen for coordinating the District competition.

Cub camp was really good, the food was first class, many thanks to Steve Delaney and his parent helpers. Program was great, excellent badge work for cyclists, navigators, pioneers and entertainers. First class, shooting, axe throwing, sumo wrestling and catapults. The camp fire, cubs own and zombie war, just icing on the cake. A lot of work goes into camp and a lot of people supported this event. Special thanks to Steve Hart, Terry Longhurst, Terry Gash, Tom Howe, Richard Fitzgerald and Dan Magill along with many others who made this such a good camp.

Chislehurst Caves and the Olympic Tree house proved an extremely well supported great day out. Well done to Karen our Assistant Group Scout Leader, who proposed and run the event. Due to sickness I was unable to attend but our Leaders were more than capable of providing and excellent day out without me. Photographs of the caves and camp are available on our website. Many thanks to Karen, Peter, Sam and Jim who lead the event for the Pack.

Please Support the Sainsbury’s Active Kids voucher scheme and collect the till coupons for the Pack. These made a bid difference saving around 30% of our pack food bill as a direct result of your efforts from last year’s appeal. They have also managed to get us some much needed kit.

Please remember the current Pack good deed, collecting school equipment for children who consider such essentials as luxuries. Pens, pencils, ruck sacs, rulers, pencil bags, rubbers, compasses, protractors, crayon or pen sets, T-shirts, socks, the list is endless. Please bring donations into Sam.

COLLECTIONS AND LEGO DIORAMAS

Time to bring collections and Lego craft in on Tuesday 23rd February. Age range prizes for the best collections and Lego creations in show.

Lost property

This has proved a real issue lately. Cubs are not looking after their kit (especially coats) and it cause other busy people a lot of work time and effort to reunite people with their property.

YOUR CUB PACK TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY LOST PROPERTY.

Items left at camp –contact the camp site lost property office

Items left at the hall – contact the parish hall lost property office

Better still make sure you don’t leave valuable items behind in the first place. If you wish to keep hold of it ensure your family name is on it.

We have a lot of children with a lot of things, if anybody feels I am being unreasonable refusing to take responsibility for other peoples negligence, any parent has my full support running a lost property box for our Pack from their own home.

Jump Giants= Quasar

Due to impossible logistics we found the proposed Jump Giant trip to be unworkable for the pack on a Tuesday evening and as we are required to vacate the hall on the 22nd March due to Parish Holy week celebrations. We are arranging to visit Quasar for the evening at Enfield. This will be a free event bequeathed to the pack by Kevin Walker our dearly lost leader.

Subscription changes

Many thanks to everybody who has made this transition so seamless and easy. Remember all other payments are made via our front desk. Please note if you have been invested lately there is a charge for investments which covers the badges T-shirts and Scarves provided at the ceremony. Please check the desk if you have yet to pay.

New Leader

Although we have a strong team and great support from parents and friends the pack needs a new leader. Akela is looking for an Adult who enjoys working with the Cub age group and has the commitment to be a leader. The Pack is seeking specific skill sets to enhance our pack leadership team. If you are, or know somebody who could be a new leader send them to see me.

Blacklist

We have three “black lists” in the pack:

Cubs who do not camp (three cubs)

Cubs who do not hike (nine cubs)

Parents who don’t help (four families)

I mention this for two reasons, firstly if you are on any of these lists your child is missing out. Secondly our scout group is oversubscribed and not allowing those who don’t full participate in the group to progress to the next section, is an easy way to help resolve our lack of spaces issue. This is not something I control.

Unreasonableness

Two cubs were collected very late from camp, We can excuse parents forgetting or misunderstanding the pickup time. Both sets of parents were uncontactable by their contact numbers, This is totally unreasonable especially as one of these parents had been warned before that their contact details were not working. Please ensure you are contactable when we are looking after your child.

140 HIKES 258 NIGHTS AWAY Issue No 335

So we won the Mince Pie Rally and County Cubopoly both events I organized. As the newly appointed Assistant District Commissioner for Chingford Cub Scouts this shows me in a really bad light and as a consequence I have decided to throw Armando out of the pack.

We need to start losing a few things to remain popular with the rest of the Districts.

Apart from that January has been a great start for the Pack in our Centenary year.

A number of new dates are published, details to follow.

Winter Cub Camp Gilwell Park Jack Petchey Lodge 12th -14th February

Big camp almost fully booked up, should be lots of fun and Badges, the Desk is taking money for this now. A parent help list is being produced. Please ensure you are helping if you wish your child to attend. Zombie theme the Cubs will need old torn clothing for the war, you won’t want this back afterwards. We intend to use light dusting of face paints please advise if your child has delicate skin…..

Chislehurst caves visit Tuesday 16th January

Should be a great day out, the Desk is taking money for this now.

Jump Giants

We will visit this attraction on Tuesday evening the 22nd March. Entrance for the cubs is paid by a legacy from Kevin Walker, we will need car transport on this evening. We will let you know.

Subscription changes

The changeover to Direct Debit is going very well, thank you for your assistance. All others monies are paid via the front desk. They can deal with any money related issues.
