March update 2016

Statistics 32 cubs and 7 visiting beavers, 5 leaders and 6 core helpers

68 HIKES 208 NIGHTS AWAY Issue No 338

Happy Spring Equinox

Moving on 20% of the pack has made a big impact on our Hikes and Nights away record. We hope all those who left enjoy their future Scouting.

People sometime have mentioned in the past how their time as a Cub was the best ever, or “schooldays were the best part of their life”. These people are a little bit sad, hopefully things like Cubs help you to get the most out of your future life by showing you options and ways to become fulfilled.

Our Pack now becomes smaller and should regrow over the year. As a Scout Group we have a big issue on finding places in Scouts for our remaining Cubs and this will be an issue for some time. If you know any solutions, potential new Scout leaders or answers to this issue let us know.

A number of events are listed below all cubs are invited to these (except Backwoods camp) this includes those moving on and Beavers visiting the pack.

Core events:

We are planning a number of trips and some require booking in advance, signup sheets and information are available on the front desk.

Currently we require numbers and deposits/payment for the following now.

  1. Hike on Saturday 19th 12:30 Chingford plane, uniform dress for the weather we will supply refreshments and a puppy to walk/carry/run after.

  2. Tuesday 5th April Olympic park, BMX training session and fun swimming in the fantastic Olympic pool, this Easter Cub day out will cost £15 booked in advance, if we do not book now we may not get all the spaces we need.

  3. Sunday 1st May Joseph £15 at Harlow Playhouse theatre, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is possibly the best Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s childrens musical, a truly magical experience. Last call for ticket bookings this Tuesday 22nd Please note this is a family event and Cubs need a parent with them.

  4. Sixers and Seconders are invited to District Backwoods day Saturday 16th April, at Damemead, Cubs Sixers and seconders will also have the opportunity to sleep over Saturday night and have a skills minicamp, this will cost £20, we will take all our allocated Sixer and seconder places and replace any Sixers or Seconders not going.

Quazar Tuesday 22nd Enfield 6:40-8:25

All Cubs are invited to Quazar at the Enfield indoor Quazar centre, uniform and no need for money. The event is bequeathed from Kevin Walker a Cub Leader who passed away last year. Please note the change in times.

Jungle Book Tuesday 19th April 6:50 Lee valley Odeon

Mr Disney has produced a new Jungle Book motion picture and we intend every Local cub to see the film on Tuesday 19th April. If you have seen the on line trailers the film looks awesome. Your Scout group will pay for our Cubs and Beavers to attend and additional tickets may be available at a special price of £5.50. This should be a great evening out, remember Cubs are themed on the original Jungle book stories by Rudyard Kipling.

New Leader

Although we have a strong team and great support from parents and friends the pack needs a new leader. Akela is looking for an Adult who enjoys working with the Cub age group and has the commitment to be a leader. Akela is seeking specific skill sets to enhance our pack leadership team. If you are, or know somebody who could be a new leader send them to see me.

Active Kids Vouchers

Please remember we are collecting Active Kids Vouchers from Sainsbury’s

Blacklist

We have three “black lists” in the pack:

Cubs who do not camp (three cubs)

Cubs who do not hike (nine cubs)

Parents who don’t help (four families)

I mention this for two reasons, firstly if you are on any of these lists your child is missing out. Secondly our scout group is oversubscribed and not allowing those who don’t full participate in the group to progress to the next section, is an easy way to help resolve our lack of spaces issue. This is not something I control.

140 HIKES 337 NIGHTS AWAY Issue No 337

2016 begins to develop into an amazing cub year

Sometimes being Akela is difficult, like when you are unwell and can’t go to Chislehurst caves, other times it’s fantastic, like when you see what is coming our way in the near future and your brain is so happy it is about to explode with the magnitude of it all.

On Tuesday 1st March its mother’s day craft, what lucky mums the 32nd Cubs have

On Tuesday 15th march we have St. Patrick ’s Day bring a homemade hat and crop competition.

On the Tuesday 22nd of March the Pack will go to Quazar in Enfield NO CHARGE.

On the Tuesday 5th April the pack will visit the Olympic park for BMX bike riding and swimming in the Olympic pool this Easter visit will cost £14

On Saturday 16th of April the packs Sixers and Seconders will attend Danemead for a District backwoods activity day and a magical sleepover.

On Tuesday 19th April the pack will visit Lee Valley Odeon to see the New Disney Jungle book film NO CHARGE

On Sunday afternoon 1st May we will go to see “Joseph” the tremendous musical show at Harlow Playhouse, tickets cost £15

On Saturday 21st may we intend to visit Chatham Historical Naval Docks which will cost about £18.

Some truly wonderful events above and beyond our normal pack program with a number of events free others very reasonably priced. What a wonderful time to be a Cub and a 32nd Cub.

Cub camp and Chislehurst Caves went very well, many thanks to our leaders and helpers who make these events possible.

This is what our pack offers, we hope members will take full advantage of these exciting opportunities, wherever possible we have zeroed the costs, however if money is an issue please have a quiet word with a uniformed leader, we are not without means.

Oh my brain is about to go pop!!!!!!

Goodbye parting is such sweet sorrow:

The time has come to bid a number of our older Cubs a fond farewell. Madeleine, Armando, Harry, Harry, Harry, Daragh, Daniel and Mason have outgrown Cubs and now need to move on. This will be at the Easter holidays, cubs are required to complete their moving on posters as part of their Chief Scout Silver Awards. Most hope to be offered spaces in our Scouts but as all parents are aware as a group we are heavily oversubscribed and our scout section (like cub pack and beaver colony) is currently overfull. Our Group executive will be struggling with the consequences of having no room at Scouts for future cubs moving on into scouts sections.

  3. Sixers and Seconders are invited to District Backwoods day Saturday 16th April, at Damemead, Cubs Sixers and seconders will also have the opportunity to sleep over Saturday night and have a skills mini camp, this will cost £20, we will take all our allocated Sixer and seconder places and replace any Sixers or Seconders not going.

Jump Giants Replaced with Quazar

We have to vacate the hall on Tuesday evening the 22nd March due to Holy week. The pack has a legacy from Kevin Walker, and this will be used to pay for Quazar on that evening. We had hoped to visit Jump Giants however this became too difficult as they have set activities on the night we need to visit. Cubs need to be at Quazar for 6:50 in uniform and the evening includes two full games.
