February 2015 Update

Statistics 44 cubs 2 visiting beavers 7 leaders 7 core helpers

190 HIKES 382 NIGHTS AWAY

Stop the ride I need to get off, what a rollercoaster of a start for 2015. A great deal achieved; cars made, collections collected, nights away, hikes away, trophies won and badges awarded. Also great parent help, a fantastic London visit (thank you Karen for organising), cubs paddling in freezing water in February will be stuck in my mind forever.

Many thanks to everybody for the help at Mince pie rally; Winter camp, Bunker, cars, collections, pancake night, Astronomers badge and our London visit. Excellent work we can now coast and chill a bit and I can watch GOT season 4 by the fire in peace.

It's been unfortunate and partly beyond our control, that a number of great events have been so close together and very tiring for our leadership team, things relax a bit from now. We have also had a few glitches; a discipline issue and an ongoing issue with child not having commitment and his parents not helping.

All parents and cubs are advised of the expectation that parents help out and that cubs show commitment when joining. I speak to each perspective family personally about this myself. I am turning away children who wish to join weekly because we are over full. It is contrary to our aims and objectives to keep places open for a very small minority of people who don't appreciate or make use and support what we offer. I was told by an upset parent that it was "offensive and misguided" of me to take this stance, I make no apologies, our pack doesn't struggle to survive like many local packs. Fortunately lack of commitment is a rare occurrence in the 32nd. Scouting is about "Joining the Adventure" and is only achievable with all our help and support, these are our values.

We are currently sorting out a competition for our Pack chess team to compete for a place on our District team.

We are looking at taking a small team to a county scooter (non powered) competition.

We are planning an Easter day out.

We considering are taking cubs to the Local Waltham forest Gang show.

The shape of things to come:

Sainsbury’s Active kid’s vouchers

Please remember to ask for these when shopping at Sainsbury’s and help us collect as many as possible, the free kit we can get helps reduce your costs.

London Bridge Walk 1st March

We have a number of good parents and Leaders committed to supporting the Pack at this County event. For my part I believe it will be a great thing for our cubs to participate in. Our City is fascinating and exciting, especially the river area. It is good for our cubs to take part in an activity raising money for a good cause and mixing with other cub packs from a wide area with common purpose. It will also give our hikes list a major boost. The walk is easily achievable for all cubs (close in distance to the London day out we just managed with beavers). Please support this activity which will be a memorable Sunday out.

We need cub numbers for this event now please. Send the attached form in next Tuesday. This is a free event.

In the pipelineItems are subject to change and additional items will be added. Hand-outs will be available for core event.
