104 HIKES 357 NIGHTS AWAY Issue No 348

November was another busy month for the pack and the Cub centenary year is quickly running to a close. December is always one of my favourite months with the Christmas run up and winter weather.

“Bah Humbug”

· Cubs will run as normal on the 13th December for those not taking part in School concerts.

· Our Big District Centenary Promise party is at Gilwell Park on Friday the 16th December. All cubs should attend this event.

· Our Pack Christmas party is on Tuesday 20th December in the Hall, Parents are requested to bring something from the party food list. If in doubt give me a call and I will tell you what is left on the list. All Cubs should have a home made Christmas hat. Prizes for the best efforts and games on the evening.

· Our Pack is having a new year’s hike on 2nd January.

· We are visiting Woodford Pantomime on the 5th January, I am advised this is the last year for Woodford Pantomime as the James Hawkey Hall site is being sold to build much needed blocks of flats. So not only a good panto but a historic event.

· Remembrance Sunday is on the 13th November, Cubs should show their respect to our fallen heroes on this day. We meet at Chingford fire station at 10:20 this morning in full smart uniform. Let’s have another great turnout this year please.

· The first meeting back in the hall after Christmas is Tuesday 10th January.

· We hope everybody has a truly wonderful Christmas holiday, childhood passes quickly and is something to treasure.

New year family Hike

Monday 2nd January

Cubs and families are invited to the first event of 2017, a fun hike through Epping Forest, exploring the forest and the natural environment and learning a bit of the history of this ancient woodland. They will also be able to earn, or continue with their Hikes Away staged activity badge.

  • Date: Monday 2nd January 2017

  • Time: 11:45am for a 12 noon start, we’ll aim to finish around 3:00pm

  • Hikes away badge credits can be earned this could be your first badge

  • Start/Finish: The walk will start and finish on Chingford Plain, Bury Road E4.

  • Uniform: Cub tops and scarves to be worn. Suitable footwear for walking through the forest and warm clothing (its winter)

  • Beavers need to be accompanied by a parent. Siblings, are welcome but must be supervised by an adult.

  • Food and Drink: There will be a hot snack and drinks available along our route.

We have three “black lists” in the pack:

Cubs who have not camped (two cubs) Cubs who do not hike (six cubs) parents who don’t help (three families).

I mention this for a couple of reasons, firstly if you are on any of these lists your child or another who could have taken their place in our pack and would have camped, is missing out. Secondly our scout group is oversubscribed and not allowing those who don’t fully participate in the group to progress to the next section, is an easy way to help resolve our lack of spaces issue. This is not something I control.

We are seeking an additional leader so if you know anybody have a word
