January 2015 Update
Statistics 43 cubs 1 visiting beavers 7 leaders 7 core helpers
160 HIKES 266 NIGHTS AWAY
Dear Parents:
Akela is now back from the dead.
There are a few, not many, sleepover spaces left on winter camp, winter camp is great fun and once again includes a trip to skate barn which was phenomenal last year. Cubs can earn a smorgasbord of badges over the next few week if they have commitment. It is okay to attend the rally without winter camp but we will still require all numbers this week. If non campers wish to attend skate barn they need to speak with me as there will be a cost. I had forgotten a “camp help roster” during my infirmity last week. Camp require two parent helpers on all meals except Saturday lunch time (packed lunches due to rally and mince pie cooking).
Lots to do and lots to catch up on.
Well done to those that hikes
Well done to those that Pantomimed
Well done to all those who returned safely last week
Every Cub should be working on a collection
Every Cub should have built and be customising their air cars
Every Cub should be considering Bunker which will be awesome
Winter Camp 23rd -25th January Gilwell Park
Winter camp is always a popular activity which on top of normal camp activities includes skate barn, MPR, and a number of badge opportunities. Camp numbers are limited to 32 Cubs. Accommodation is well appointed indoors at the Dorothy Hughes centre. Cost is £40 or £30 for siblings as the price includes Mince pie rally entrance. Details attached.
Mince Pie Rally 2015 January 24th
Rally is included in our winter camp. Cubs not camping are welcome to attend and the event costs £10. Mince pie Rally is a chance to gain one a number of different Cub Scout Activity badges and compete for the District Trophy. Time is 10-3, dress uniform, cubs can go outside but will require warm clothing. Al cubs will require a packed lunch and some tuck shop money. Cubs on camp will be fed as part of our camp programme. Details attached.
Collectors badge 10th February
All Cubs should be working on a collection for displaying at the start of February. Collections must have 12 related objects presented in an ordered manner, good collection presentation is one third of the collector badge requirement. Cubs should know what, how, why, where and when they have collected their items, full badge details attached.
Air car Derby also 10th February
This is also the night to return the Christmas car constructed for racing and customised. Cubs can earn prizes for the fastest, longest distance achieved and best customised car. All Cubs were given a car for Christmas and now is the time should bring their car in.
BUNKER OVERNIGHT 14th-15th February
One of the very big Jewels in the 32nd Cub Pack crown, bunker is a massive Harry Potter adventure game set in a decommissioned cold war underground bunker for 100+ cubs. Cubs compete in Hogwarts team sixes doing exciting bases. Think crystal maze, The chase, Harry Potter and cubs in costume all mixed together and you have an insight to this event. Details to follow but the cost including coach travel is £25 and we leave Chingford at 6pm on Saturday 14th returning 10am on the Sunday morning. Do not miss this event.

<image.jpeg>2014 was a very active year for our pack. We achieved a lot of badges, had record Cub numbers and awesome camps. We have won District quiz, swimming gala and Chess and still it’s all been great fun. Many thanks for all the adult help, our pack is good because we have strong parent help. We have consistently topped our previous year achievements, topping 2014 will be difficult, it’s a good job we are competitive.
A warning that events in 2015 start with a bit of a logjam. Apologies’ if this causes difficulties to families please have a quiet word if you need help. Three very good cub events. Winter Camp, mince pie rally and Bunker are close together, fortunately Mince Pie Rally will run within winter camp which “kills two birds with one stone” but Bunker, which is one of our very best events is close on the heels of camp.
Key dates until the end of January:
2nd January Christmas walk family event details on the website and flyers already handed out.
8th January Pantomime at Sir James Hawkey hall Woodford flyer already handed out.

Our Pack depends on parental help, we need two parent helpers at each meeting, sometimes a few more and lots of help when the pack is out and about. We are the largest and most active local pack with the biggest leadership team, but my leaders are needed to run games and activities not support the pack by tidying up, serving food and drinks and such tasks. We really do need your help for this. Please be aware we have sickness in the leadership team at present which will need additional helpers stepping up and doing their bit. Let’s keep the good work up. We also badly need some additional long term free storage space and could use a second cub pack which would mean a new pack Leader. Let me know if you can help.
