December 2016

Hello

It has been another busy few weeks for the troop, with a fantastic firework display at Gilwell Park, a fabulous turn out and procession for Remembrance Sunday (Thanks Terry for leading the practice), a great shared night with the cubs at Better Extreme and a Christmas Party. There is a family New Year walk on 2nd January, hope to see you there.

Programme

We are currently finishing the final touches to next term’s programme and will send out more details in the New Year, but in the meantime here are a few dates for your diary.

Saturday 2nd January – Family New Year walk. Meet at midday at Chingford Plains – the walk will last about 3 hours with refreshments provided

Friday 6th January – First meeting of 2017

20-22 January – Winter Camp at Gilwell Park (we will be taking deposits at the first meeting back on 6th January)

10 March - Bunker sleepover

Troop rules reminder

Ahead of the New Year. a wee reminder of the troop rules.

· Respect the opening and closing ceremonies (with full uniform and no talking)

· Take part in activities

· Respect the leaders (by listening to what they say) and each other

If a scout is spoken to three times in one meeting because they have broken the rules then they will be asked to miss the next meeting. If any scouts are missing any uniform (trousers, woggles, scarfs etc then please let me know.)

Saying goodbye and hello.

Sadly we said goodbye to 6 of our longer serving scouts who have moved onto Explorers over this Christmas. Lucia Spanec, Ben Gates, Greta Wright, Edward Sharman, Jack Ashwell and Oliver Ashwell – you’ve been legends and I am sure you will be fantastic explorers.

As we say goodbye we also say hello to five new scouts. Welcome Ben Collins, Gabriel Fearn-Paoli, Hanna Roberts, Damon Davis and Kaelan Wild. Ben and Gabriel were invested in our last meeting of the term and we look forward to investing Hanna, Damon and Kaelan in the New Year.

We also said goodbye to two leaders this term Maricris whose work commitments mean she can no longer help on a regular basis, but will be helping at camps and meetings whenever she can and to Terry who is taking over a sea scout troop on Friday evenings. A huge thank you to both of them for all their work with the scout troop and for all their fun, enthusiasm and hard work during their time with the troop.

Parent helpers

With Terry and Maricris moving on we are in more need than ever of parent helpers on a Friday night to keep the troop going. Billy Pickford, an ex scout, has kindly joined the troop as a young leader but we will need parent help every week during the next term as we search for 2 new leaders. I will forward the rota early in the New Year along with details of next term’s programme.

Website

Dan Magill has kindly helped create a better scout page on the 32 Chingford scout group website, full details can be found at www.32ndchingfordscoutgroup.co.uk/home
